Nicola Sturgeon's elderly parents targeted with item put through letterbox

NICOLA Sturgeon’s sister has claimed her parents have been targeted with “abuse” following the First Minister’s resignation.

In a post on Facebook, Gillian Sturgeon said: “She’s resigned. She’s no longer a thorn in your side so STAY AWAY from my parents…I am fuming”.

Police have confirmed an "item of clothing" was posted to the FM's parents home in Ayrshire - but said it posed "no risk".

The First Minister’s younger sister said a troll had posted a T-shirt through her parents’ door which featured a “photo of nic saying I identify as unemployed”.

She added: "She’ll never be unemployed and if she was wtf !!! Her choice. Her terms x"

Gillian, who lives in Irvine, North Ayrshire, told her social media followers that she had informed police.

The First Minister's parents - Robin and Joan, both in their seventies - live in Dreghorn, where Sturgeon was brought up.

Responding to supportive messages from friends on Facebook, she said: "Thanks folks. This abuse been so bad last week.

"They are trying to get one last dig but to target my poor parents makes me livid".

One supportive friend said: "Who is targeting your parents? See whitever fluffwhit thinks that is acceptable? You can disagree with policies, but do not abuse people! Hope your parents are ok.

"I never pretended to agree with all policies of the SNP, but I will say this - your parents are wonderful people, had the pleasure of meeting both of them at one point or another and to get this abuse from others makes me angry.

"No wonder you are fuming hunni."

A police spokesperson said: “We were made aware of an item of clothing delivered to a property in the Dreghorn area on Thursday, February 23.

“There was no risk posed by the item and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
