Nicola Sturgeon reveals her favourite books of 2024

FORMER first minister Nicola Sturgeon has unveiled the best books she read in 2024.

It comes ahead of the release of her own memoirs, which she recently revealed she was in the process of editing, next year.

The MSP posts a list of books she has particularly enjoyed at the end of every year and took to Instagram on Monday evening to share this year’s favourites.

They included:

  • Gliff – Ali Smith
  • Brotherless Night – V. V. Ganeshananthan
  • James – Percival Everett
  • Queen MacBeth – Val McDermid
  • Time of the Flies – Claudia Piñeiro
  • There Are Rivers in the Sky – Elif Shafak
  • Leave No Trace – Jo Callaghan
  • Stone Yard Devotional – Charlotte Wood
  • The Book of Doors – Gareth Brown

Sturgeon also said that there were a few books she had not included as she had passed these onto someone else or left them in her office.

Callaghan responded to the post on Instagram and said: "Oh wow, that is amazing! Thank you so much for including me in this incredible selection and a happy new year."

These included Caledonian Road by Andrew O’Hagan, To The Dogs by Louise Welsh, The Future by Naomi Alderman, The Dark Wives by Ann Cleeves and The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden.

On her Instagram story, Sturgeon also shared an image of the novel Butter by Asako Yuzuki and said: “I am also loving this which I am reading just now (which is not conducive to cracking on with editing my own book).”
