Nicola Sturgeon claims Liz Truss asked her 'how she could get in Vogue'

Nicola Sturgeon has hit out at Liz Truss claiming the Tory party leadership contender once asked her how to get into a high-end lifestyle magazine.

The First Minister reacted in brutal fashion after the Foreign Secretary branded Sturgeon an "attention seeker" who should be "ignored".

Truss made the comments during a Tory hustings in Exeter last week and has since doubled down on them.

During Iain Dale's All Talk with Nicola Sturgeon at the Fringe, the FM said the only time she has ever met Truss was at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow last year.

Sturgeon had just appeared in Vogue magazine in October 2021 to speak about the climate and her time as FM.

The SNP leader claimed Truss asked her at COP26, "how she could get in Vogue".

She added: "That was the main thing she wanted to talk to me about, she wanted to know how she could get into Vogue - and she calls me an attention-seeker

"I said to her they came and asked me. I didn't really mean to do this, but I said to her it hadn't actually been my first time in Vogue, it had been my second time.

"It looked a little bit as if she'd swallowed a wasp. I'm sure she'll be in Vogue before too long. I remember it because there we were at the world's biggest climate change conference in Glasgow, world leaders about to arrive

"That was the main topic of conversation she was interested in pursuing. And once we'd exhausted that it kind of dried up. I'm sure we'll have many more conversations about many more substantive things."

She added: "She calls me an attention seeker."

Sturgeon, who initially didn't respond to the attack by Truss, took to social media on Friday where she posted a picture of a seal popping its head out of the water.

She captioned the snap: "Spotted this cute seal in beautiful Argyll. I think s/he might be a bit of an attention seeker."

What did Liz Truss say about Nicola Sturgeon?

During the Tory Party hustings in Exeter at the start of the campaign Truss was asked how she would deal with Sturgeon.

She replied: "I feel like I’m a child of the union, that I really believe we are a family and we’re better together. And I think the best thing to do with Nicola Sturgeon is ignore her.

"She’s an attention seeker, that’s what she is. And what we need to do is show the people of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales what we are delivering for them, and making sure that all of our government policies apply right across the United Kingdom."

During the Sky News debate on Thursday evening Truss was asked by presenter Kay Burley if she would apologise for the comments. She replied: "No".
