NICOLA Sturgeon has backed The National’s campaign to raise funds for vital aid in Gaza.
The former first minister gave her support to our Medical Aid for Palestinians fundraiser, which is aiming to raise £50,000 this week.
It comes as Gaza’s healthcare system is barely surviving, with fears it could collapse and so result in more deaths than the conflict itself – with only 16 of Gaza's 36 hospitals currently operational and just 1822 hospital beds available, according to the World Health Organisation.
Sturgeon said: “The ongoing situation in Gaza is utterly horrifying. Tens of thousands of innocent lives have been cruelly taken as a result of bombs, starvation and lack of access to basic necessities – it is devastating.
“Organisations like Medical Aid for Palestinians are providing life-saving aid in Gaza. I encourage everyone to give what they can to help MAP continue to help those in desperate need.
“I applaud the team at The National for their ongoing efforts to get support to the innocent Palestinian men, women and children.”
The leaders of all of Scotland’s main political parties have backed the fundraising drive, which is close to reaching its goal.
