Top actress Nicola Coughlan has joked she hopes to get her face on a wall in London next – as another mural of the Bridgerton star is unveiled in her hometown in Galway.
A mural of the star, who plays Penelope Featherington (aka Lady Whistledown) in Netflix series Bridgerton, has just been unveiled at McGuire’s Daybreak, Raven Terrace, Galway where Nicola is from.
The image of Nicola shows her in character writing her gossip by candlelight. The mural was painted by Irish artist Marcus O’Connor, in collaboration with Graffiti Life, a street art collective and will be live until March 27.
Speaking on the BBC’s The One Show Nicola said: “This is so mad! I now have three murals on the island of Ireland. I never thought I’d have even one. One in Derry, one in Dublin and now one in Galway. Just get one in London next.”
The first mural of Nicola was unveiled in Derry back in 2019 on the gable wall of Badger's pub. Her character Clare Devlin was painted alongside her fellow co-stars of the hit comedy sitcom.
And in July last year, a mural of Nicola’s character was unveiled on a wall at The George bar in Dublin.
The mural, which was designed to mark Pride month, is beside another artwork depicting LGBTQ+ icon Oscar Wilde by artist Chelsea R Jacobs.
The piece is by well-known Irish street artist Emmalene Blake and depicts the famous scene from Derry Girls when Clare (Nicola's character) comes out to Erin as "the wee lesbian".
Nicola returns for the second season of Bridgerton.
Speaking about her role in the new season, she said: “Season Two is like Penelope’s Britney Spears era: she’s not a girl, not yet a woman.
“She’s definitely moved on but she’s not quite there yet. Following the big reveal at the end of last season, you start to see a lot more of the Whistledown side of her seep into her everyday life.
"We start seeing Penelope and Whistledown come together, and that’s been so much fun to play because it’s almost been like playing two completely different roles. I don’t think it’s going to be what people expect.”
