Nicola Adams and her pregnant girlfriend Ella Baig reveal the gender of their baby

Nicola Adams and her model girlfriend Ella Baig have announced they are expecting a baby boy.

The boxer, 39, who revealed in February Ella, 24, is pregnant with their first child, said she is "excited" and "nervous" about becoming a mum after they held a gender reveal.

The couple called their baby boy a "fighter" after they started their fertility journey in 2019 and had four rounds of IVF, with Ella pregnant using Nicola's egg and a sperm donor.

Strictly star Nicola told Hello! Magazine: "It’s super cool. I’m excited, happy, nervous and just wondering what to expect. It feels really good to finally have a baby on the way. All the ups and downs were worth it in the end."

Ella suffered a miscarriage after the couple’s first round of IVF treatment as she unknowingly had an underactive thyroid which can “dramatically impact” a healthy pregnancy, the couple previously announced.

The model, who showed off her blossoming baby bump in a loved-up photoshoot, told the publication: "I think it’s safe to say the baby is a fighter, it’s definitely an active baby. From about 17 weeks I was feeling kicks and whenever we went for a scan, I don’t even know what it was doing, perhaps backflips."

Ella said she hopes falling pregnant with their son helps other couples who are struggling to conceive.

The gender reveal involved a blue and pink paint splattered canvas before the couple pealed back vinyl letters to uncover the words, "It’s a boy!"

Ella said she decided on removing the pink and blue paint to show the black as a symbolic way of "bring awareness to the difference between sex and gender and make it less stereotypical".

The model felt it was important being part of the LGBTQ community to break away from the stereotypical gender reveals which she says "often reinforce gender stereotypes".

The couple announced their pregnancy in a joint post in February, alongside a photo of them and one of their ultrasound scan.

Announcing the news, they said: "We're so excited to announce that our family is expanding. After what feels like a lifetime, we can finally say we're going to be parents!"

They further commented in the post: "We're so excited to share this magical journey with you all, the ups, the downs everything in between. Welcome to the world little one."

The post was flooded with messages congratulating the couple, including from Katya Jones, 32 - who was Nicola's professional partner during her time on Strictly in 2020.

She wrote in the comments section of the couple's post: "I am beyond excited and happy for you. What a beautiful news. You gonna be such amazing parents."
