Nicky Byrne surprises 101-year-old Westlife fan with sweet call on her birthday

One of Westlife's oldest fans got a call from a member of the band who wished her happy returns.

Edna Warner's 101 birthday was already Westlife-themed after staff at her care home in Worcestershire, England, threw her a tea party inspired by the Dublin hit-making band. They also arranged a special call from singer Nicky Byrne, making the fan's birthday even more memorable, told the Mirror.

Speaking in the touching birthday message, Nicky said: "Edna, Noddy as they call you, happy birthday! I just want to take the opportunity to say a big hello and congratulations on reaching 101. That is simply amazing. I hear you're a big Westlife fan, so I just want to thank you for all your support through the years - it really means a lot.

"I really hope I live a long and happy and healthy life like you have. Here's to the next 101 years. You get to 201. That is the dream. Have a wonderful party and hope you get spoilt rotten and you get everything you want. Sending all our love from the boys in Westlife."

On Facetime the 101-year-old told Nicky how excited she was, and made him laugh with her advice on how to live to her ripe old age. She said: "Just behave yourself - and do as you're told."

Nicky jokingly replied: "So, I just need to behave myself? Not eat healthy or anything - just behave myself. That is some really good advice."

In the run up to Edna's birthday, staff at Woodland View tried to arrange for the band to come and visit the birthday girl. One member of staff was even banned from several Westlife Facebook groups when she spammed the page with messages to try and get Edna's dream to come true.

Lisa Dews, home manager, said: "Edna had an amazing day. Also, to anyone that's been following our appeal to Westlife to send her a video message as she is their biggest fan. Nicky Byrne from the band sent her a video message, and then after that, he FaceTimed her for a chat which she was over the moon with. You have all helped make her birthday one to remember."
