Nick Saban Deftly Turns Tables on Radio Caller With Epic Sarcastic Rant

Nick Saban apparently has heard enough about the state of his program after Alabama fell to Texas at home, 34–24, last Saturday.

With that in mind, Saban decided to take matters into his own hands and get out in front of any further criticism on his weekly radio show. Speaking on his “Hey Coach” program Thursday, Saban kicked things off by taking a question from regular caller Peewee Roberts. But before giving Roberts a chance to actually ask about the Crimson Tide, Saban jumped right in with a delightful rant after the caller greeted him by saying, “Coach, how are you, sir?”

“Well, Peewee, I’ve been wanting to talk to you all week, man,” Saban said. “We gotta firm up the pocket. We’re setting too soft. We’re getting pushed back in the middle. Everybody thinks we can’t hold up against the blitz, but they’re sacking us with four-man rush, one three-man rush. Only one sack came off of a pressure.

“So, I wanted to ask you: ‘What the hell is going on?’”

Not shockingly, the witty response from Saban generated quite a few laughs from the show’s live audience. After the laughter subsided, Peewee weighed back in with the perfect response.

“I believe you’ve covered it all right there coach,” Roberts said.

Though Saban seemed to be having fun with one of the program’s most dedicated fans, there’s at least some truth to his rant. Alabama yielded five sacks to Texas in Week 2, a fact that surely will be a point of emphasis as the Tide look to get back on track at South Florida on Saturday before entering SEC play.
