Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope has been nominated for the Premier League Save of the Month award for August. Pope’s superb stop in the Magpies’ 0-0 draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium is one of eight nominees.
Pope kept back-to-back clean sheets in his first two league appearances for Newcastle – producing five saves to keep the Seagulls at bay on Match Day 2.
His save to thwart Adam Lallana’s header was the pick of the bunch as he sprawled to his left to claw his goal-bound effort to safety. Pope has registered three clean sheets in the Premier League since arriving from Burnley this summer and has replaced Martin Dubravka as Newcastle's number one, with the Slovakian joining Manchester United on loan.
The England international has also been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award and has already been voted Newcastle’s Player of the Month.
Pope faces stern competition with David Raya’s stunning stop to thwart Aleksandar Mitrovic’s header and Dean Henderson’s penalty save from Harry Kane also among the nominees.
Illan Meslier (Leeds); Jose Sa (Wolves); Hugo Lloris (Tottenham); Emi Martinez (Aston Villa) and Danny Ward (Leicester) are also on the Premier League’s shortlist.
You can vote for your favourite save on the Premier League’s official website, here.
The supporters’ vote will be combined with the choices of a panel of experts to determine the winner with the public vote closing on Monday, September 12, at 12:00 BST.
