Nick Kyrgios’ Wimbledon hopes in doubt as knee injury forces Halle exit

Nick Kyrgios has cast doubt over his Wimbledon participation after pulling out of a warm-up event in Halle because of ongoing injury problems.

Last year’s Wimbledon runner-up underwent surgery at the start of the year to mend a small tear in his knee.

He struggled with discomfort in his first competitive match of 2023 at last week’s Stuttgart Open, a 7-5, 6-3 loss to China’s Wu Yibing.

Kyrgios had been scheduled to compete in Halle on Tuesday against Lorenzo Sonego but withdrew on Monday to give him more time to recover for Wimbledon.

The 28-year-old was the surprise package at SW19 last year, making it all the way to the final where he lost out in four sets to Novak Djokovic.

It raises question marks over Kyrgios’ participation at Wimbledon with the clock ticking to the tournament’s start at the beginning of July.
