A man has appeared in a Canberra court after he allegedly stole tennis star Nick Kyrgios’s luxury car at gunpoint.
Court documents Tuesday allege a 32-year-old man wearing dark clothing pointed a firearm at Kyrgios’s mother, Norlaila Kyrgios, at about about 8:30am on Monday and demanded she hand over the keys to a green Tesla.
The man allegedly got behind the wheel as Ms Kyrgios ran away calling for her son, who promptly called triple-0, the documents said.
Kyrgios reportedly helped police trace the car, and even slow it down, by using the Tesla app on his phone.
“The victim was able to provide location updates for the car,” the documents said.
The documents say police pursued the Tesla before the chase ultimately ended when the car entered a school zone at around 9.05am.
The alleged thief faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with aggravated robbery, driving a stolen motor vehicle, furious driving, and failure to stop for police. He was denied bail.
