Nick Hewer: I'd rather eat my own leg than join I'm A Celebrity

Former Apprentice star Nick Hewer has revealed that he has turned down the chance to appear on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here and Strictly Come Dancing, as he would "rather eat my own leg."

Now a presenter on Channel 4's Countdown, the 75-year-old appeared as Lord Sugar's advisor on The Apprentice for a decade, but does not see himself in the jungle or on the dancefloor.

"Strictly came after me this year," he told Radio Times magazine.

"A charming woman asked me to a meeting and I said, 'No, you'll beguile me. And if I did the show, we would both be disappointed.'

"I'm A Celebrity... asked me too. I'd rather eat my own leg."

Hewer revealed that he still watches The Apprentice and said that while the candidates are still "talented," contestants on the show now have "more extreme" personalities as "everybody wants to be famous."

The interview appears in this week's Radio Times (Radio Times)

"It's still wonderful, although sometimes it's difficult for me because I was so immersed in it and I can sort of see the way it's going," he said.

"Not that I ever know who Lord Sugar's going to fire in the boardroom. I never did, even when I was on it."

Hewer was replaced on the show by Claude Littner, who now appears alongside Karren Brady.

The new issue of Radio Times is out now. With additional reporting by Press Association
