Nick Hammond's say in Leeds United's new manager mooted as advisor 'brought in for a reason'

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson is confident Nick Hammond will hold significant sway on the appointment of the club's next manager. Former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke is expected to be unveiled as Sam Allardyce's successor in the Elland Road dugout, once the club's takeover is approved by the EFL.

The Whites have returned to pre-season without a new man in the hotseat, and with doubts still swirling around a host of first-team stars. Marc Roca is expected to be the third departure of the window so far, with Real Betis said to be leading the race for the former Bayern Munich midfielder.

Leeds remain in the midst of a significant rebuild ahead of their return to the Championship, with Hammond drafted in on a temporary basis in the wake of Victor Orta's exit. The former director of football at Reading and head of football operations at Celtic served in a similar consultancy role at Newcastle United following their takeover in October 2021.

Robinson believes Hammond was brought in with 'a reason' in mind, and is confident the 55-year-old will have sat in on the interviews for potential managers. He told MOT Leeds News: “You bring people in for a reason. You bring people with a wealth of knowledge and experience and he’s got that. He’s going to be advising on a temporary basis.

“I have no doubt that he was sat in the interview process with the new manager. You bring in people like that for a reason.”
