Nick Grimshaw and mother 'sedated by criminals using knockout gas' during Ibiza villa break-in

Nick Grimshaw and his mother Eileen, 81, reportedly faced a terrifying ordeal while on holiday in Ibiza when a gang allegedly pumped sedative gas into their villa before breaking in.

The radio DJ was visiting the White Isle with his family in July to celebrate his 40th birthday.

The gang allegedly pumped sedative gas into the holiday home, waited for everyone to fall asleep, and then broke in to ransack the place.

Fortunately no one was harmed during the incident. It’s believed the intruders carried out the stunt merely for their own amusement rather than a targeted attack.

Although the criminals likely didn’t recognise Grimshaw, they may have assumed the villa was occupied by wealthy tourists.

An insider told The Sun that the presenter was understandably shaken by the incident.

The source said: “Sadly it's a case of the wrong place at the wrong time but it's scary to say the least.

“Nick was obviously upset but thought best to keep things off social media.”

Grimshaw chose not to address the situation on social media and instead shared idyllic photos from his trip, jokingly captioning one post: “If football's coming home, maybe no one will notice if I just… stay here.”

The Standard has contacted Nick Grimshaw’s rep for comment.

Other celebrities have faced similar alleged attacks.

In 2015 Formula 1 driver Jenson Button and his wife Jessica were reportedly victims of a sedative gas attack in their villa in Saint-Tropez.

Button's spokesperson said at the time: “Jenson, Jessica and friends were on holiday in a rented villa in St Tropez when on Monday evening two men broke into the property whilst they all slept and stole a number of items of jewellery including, most upsettingly, Jessica’s engagement ring.

“The police have indicated that this has become a growing problem in the region, with perpetrators going so far as to gas their proposed victims through the air-conditioning units before breaking in.”
