Nick Cannon 'makes plea' for reconciliation with ex Mariah Carey in new song

Nick Cannon has seemingly made an impassioned plea to reunite with ex-wife Mariah Carey eight years after the couple went their separate ways.

The rapper-turned-presenter, 41, released his new song on YouTube on Sunday and appeared to make moves to win his former partner and mother to two of his kids back in his lyrics.

The pair were married between 2008 and 2014 and share 10-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.

In a press released for his new tune, Nick says it's "as raw as it gets" and opens the song with a sample from Mariah's 1990 hit Love Takes Time.

He then shares the lyrics: "First off, Imma say I ain't got nothin' but love for ya."

He continues: "Imma stay away, I ain't tryin' to f**k it up for ya / Imma keep my distance, stay in my lane / Cause I know you got a man, it's a little too late."

As the song goes on, Nick makes it clear that "being without her sucks" as he pines: "If I could have you back / If I could go back to where we started at."

While the star noted he wouldn't get in the way of his former wife's happiness and love live, he sings about not being able to erase the memories of their time together.

The track ended with the star saying: "Sometimes I just think...how'd I get here? It's one of them things where you just feel like you f****d up and I can't stop crying."

The press release stated that the song was "an ode to Mariah Carey," according to Entertainment Tonight.

After meeting in 2008, the pair quickly tied the knot after just six weeks of being together. However, there was trouble in paradise in 2014 and the pair finally sealed their divorce in 2016.

Despite going their separate ways, the former couple have stayed close as they continue to co-parent their two kids.

Since their split, Nick has had children with a number of women and is currently expecting baby number eight.

Sadly, his youngest child passed away in December last year from a brain tumour at just five months old.

The star shared the tragic news with viewers on The Nick Cannon Show at the time explaining how young Zen's health had got worse during the Thanksgiving period.

He explained: "Over the weekend, I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus…brain cancer.

"It’s tough. And I have my therapist here, who’s been helping us through it."

Clearly tearing up, Nick told the audience that he spent the previous weekend in California with Zen.
