Nicholas Ioannou posts message ahead of imminent Nottingham Forest return

Nottingham Forest defender Nicholas Ioannou has described his loan move to Como 1907 as a "beautiful journey" in a parting message following the end of his time in Italy.

Ioannou joined the Serie B side last summer on a season-long loan deal and he has seemingly enjoyed his time in Italy, making 30 appearances - including 22 starts - as Como finished the season in 13th.

The 26-year-old has spoken out about his spell away from the City Ground in a post to his social media.

"A beautiful journey has come to an end," wrote Ioannou on Instagram. "We went through a lot of ups and downs, but at the end we have achieved what we wanted! I want to thank the board for the opportunity that was given to me to play for this amazing club, all the coaching staff who believed in me and my teammates with whom we shared amazing moments.

"Last but not least, I want to thank our fans for the support and love they gave to me throughout the season. I wish to the club good luck and I will always follow and be a fan of Como 1907."

Ioannou has another 12 months left on his Nottingham Forest contract with his current deal understood to run until next summer at the earliest. As reported by NottinghamshireLive last month, it is believed that the left-back will be given the opportunity to showcase his talents to boss Steve Cooper during pre-season before the Reds make a decision about his immediate future.

The Reds have a number of options currently available at left-back but that will decrease over the summer. Max Lowe will return to his parent club Sheffield United once the season is over, although Forest will likely look to bring him back, while Gaetan Bong is out of contract this summer too.

That leaves Richie Laryea as the only senior out-and-out left-back option. Jack Colback has featured in the position in Lowe's absence - due to an injury - whilst youngster Aaron Donnelly could be involved in the first-team picture thanks to some dazzling academy performances.
