Niall McGinn hailed Jay Donnelly's "unbelievable" goal as Glentoran got Rodney McAree's managerial reign off to a much-needed win.
Donnelly fired in from over 40 yards after Niall McGinn had put the visitors in front at Newry City with his first goal since joining from Dundee.
The Glens had to work for the points in the second half though after Jame Teelan reduced the deficit on 48 minutes before Patrick McClean saw red for bringing down John McGovern, but Donnelly's second before the hour made the points safe.

"For Jay to get that unbelievable second, it was brilliant," McGinn told Glens TV.
"All in all I'm delighted, the second half was tough being down to 10 men, for Jay to get the third and make it a wee bit more comfortable for us was pleasing.
"I was delighted to score early as it sort of set the tempo for the game.
"I just reacted to a misplaced pass on their behalf, it was a ricochet high up the pitch and thankfully I got in and took a nice touch and finished."
McGinn felt the extra rest after the game was postponed on Friday due to the freezing conditions helped Glentoran secure the points at The Showgrounds.
But the Northern Ireland international was quick to point out that they need to back up the win when they travel to his old stomping ground at Stangmore Park on Tuesday.
"We kept preparing right, but it gave us that extra day to recover as we had the day off yesterday," said McGinn.
"It probably showed with the energy levels we had throughout the game.
"Today will only be a good three points if we can go and back it up at Dungannon on Tuesday.
"Obviously they were my first team in the Irish League and it will be nice to see a few familiar faces.
"More importantly I'm at Glentoran Football Club now and I'll be going out to get the three points.
"We just need to build on today and go out and get another three points."
