Niall Horan lends support to friend Lewis Capaldi as he takes time out from touring due to Tourette’s

Niall Horan had nothing but love for Lewis Capaldi as he discussed his friend’s decision to take a break from touring to concentrate on both his physical and mental wellbeing.

The Scottish singer made the announcement on Monday following his appearance at Glastonbury at the weekend where he apologised to the crowd as he struggled with Tourette’s Syndrome “tics” during his Pyramid Stage performance.

Tourette’s is a neurological condition that causes you to make involuntary movements and sounds known as “tics”.

He had previously cancelled three weeks of shows to rest and recover ahead of the festival, however, one such attack came on as he performed his hit single Someone You Loved.

During his performance, Capaldi had several involuntary movements of his arms and head which caused his voice to falter.

The crowd had his back however, with thousands singing the lyrics at the top of their lungs while he took some time to compose himself.

Speaking to The Sun, Horan said: “I’m really happy for Lewis that he’s able to take the time that he obviously feels he needs right now.

“We saw it at Glastonbury at the weekend when the whole crowd, 100,000 people, were right behind him.

“I think they realised how much he was struggling up there. It was a proper human moment,” the former One Direction star added to the publication.

The Slow Hands hitmaker went to note how even though Capaldi is known for his jokey behaviour and comical self, he is also a man who struggles with his own anxieties and Tourette’s.

Capaldi revealed in 2022 that he had been diagnosed with Tourette’s and this year gave an insight into its impact in the Disney+ documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now.
