Nia DaCosta, known for directing The Marvels, is in talks to direct the second film in Sony's upcoming horror trilogy, the 28 Years Later franchise. The original 2002 movie, 28 Days Later, was directed by Danny Boyle, who is returning to helm the first sequel film. The script for the sequel films is written by Alex Garland, who also penned the first film.

It was previously reported that Sony Pictures acquired the long-awaited feature follow-up, with Garland writing both scripts. Cillian Murphy, who starred in 28 Days Later and recently won an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, is set to be an executive producer for the new project and may potentially appear in it.

Nia DaCosta has experience in the horror genre, having directed Candyman, a sequel to the 1992 original. The film, released in 2021, starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Colman Domingo.

28 Days Later follows Murphy's character, a coma patient who wakes up in a deserted hospital to discover a world overrun by the undead, 28 days after the outbreak. The movie grossed over $80 million worldwide and was followed by the 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later, where Boyle and Garland served as executive producers.

Deadline first reported the news of Nia DaCosta potentially directing 28 Years Later, marking an exciting development for the franchise. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated project.
