Brandon Tanev saw an opportunity here and took it.
It’s training camp season across the NHL, as the 2021-22 season starts to pull into view after a shortened offseason. With training camp comes the obligatory media press tour, which includes the opportunity for players to update their headshots with their newest looks or for their latest team.
This week, Tanev of the Seattle Kraken recreated his now infamously viral photo of his headshot from last year with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In it, Tanev looks shocked and surprised, almost like he saw a ghost… which he actually says he did right as the picture was being taken!
Now with Seattle for the upcoming season, Tanev purposefully recreated that viral headshot, now looking just a bit goofier.

Not only that, Kasperi Kapanen of the Penguins also got in on the joke, as his headshot for the year also is a recreation of Tanev’s famous moment.

Gotta love the former teammate solidarity here!
I absolutely adore the fact that Tanev is totally leaning in on the joke here and bringing it to Seattle. The personality of the Kraken is already starting to take shape right before our very open eyes.
