NHL Fans React To Latest Alex Ovechkin Injury News

Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin sustained a lower leg injury in Monday night’s 6-2 win over Utah.  His status is week-to-week, and he will be evaluated on Wednesday.

Ovechkin has been on fire this season scoring 15 goals in 18 games.  His leadership is instrumental for the Capitals who at 13-4-1 are in first place in the Metropolitan Division.

He is also rewriting the NHL history books with 868 career goals, second to Wayne Gretzky who has 894.

For all these reasons, Capitals fans took Ovechkin’s injury news hard.

What Fans Are Saying About Alex Ovechkin’s Injury

Commander AG IN VA did not like hearing that he is week-to week.  “Week to week is horrible news for the Caps. It would’ve been a lot better if it was day to day, and Ovi has been on fire. I just hope he can come back from the injury and keep rolling…”

SkinsFan55 is also concerned about the week-to-week designation writing: “That’s not good at all. Week to week means it’s more than likely a tear or at least something that will keep him on the shelf for several weeks”

Titansville described what happened when the news broke. “Just fell to my knees in an Arby’s parking lot”

Predz9000 said: “Hoping for a speedy recovery for The Great Eight. Hockey isn’t the same without him on the ice.”

Joseph Canan is willing to take one for the team.  He posted: “I’m more than willing to give up my leg for him”

Here is a glass half-full theory fans can get behind.  Zdcaps pointed out that Edmonton’s Connor McDavid was week-to-week already this season and only missed 10 days.

Others noted that McDavid is 27 and Ovechkin is 39, and age is a factor in recovery from injury.

Mountain Lover is like most of us in wishing that the NHL was more transparent with injuries.  UBI and LBI are generic terms that can mean too many things.

In the meantime, fans hope for the best and that Ovechkin returns to the Capitals lineup soon.
