It’s almost time for the 2022 NHL draft lottery, where we’ll soon know the fate of the bottom 16 teams in the league ahead of the upcoming entry draft.
Even though the Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing, Tuesday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. ET will mark the NHL draft lottery for the second half of the league. It’s been a tough season for many NHL teams, but the draft lottery provides a slim amount of hope for a franchise’s future with a high draft pick.
The rules for the 2022 NHL draft lottery are a bit different this year, as a team can only move up to 10 spots and only the first two spots in the lottery are up for grabs, a change from three in previous years. The remaining teams will then be sorted by inverse order of regular-season points to determine the rest of the field. These two changes mean teams such as the Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes will be guaranteed a top pick after a grueling and miserable 82-game season.
Despite only the top 11 teams having a chance at the No. 1 overall pick, here’s the full 16-team list of the odds for the upcoming 2022 NHL draft lottery.
