Bill Belichick’s legendary 24-year run with the New England Patriots is reportedly over, with the two sides parting ways on Thursday.
This puts an end to an incredible era that saw Belichick win six Super Bowls with the Patriots, as he teamed up with Tom Brady to build a dynasty that is unmatched in NFL history.
Belichick is out after leading the Patriots to a 4–13 record this past season, his worst as an NFL head coach.
These stats show just how dominant his run was in New England:

Belichick and Saban out in New England and Alabama within 24 hours of each other just an absolutely wild time to be alive https://t.co/iiM6RnQwbS

End of an era doesn’t even begin to describe it. What Bill Belichick did in New England will never be replicated. Even if the timing is right to move on, it doesn’t take away an unbelievable career. https://t.co/8wOctANHy1

News that most expected but still shocking to see it come to this. 24 seasons, nine Super Bowl appearances, six Super Bowl titles, an NFL record 31 playoff wins, a 292-120 record overall. We’ll never see anything like it again.

The #Patriots will have a new head coach. https://t.co/8k1qIJnxiQ
Carroll, Saban and now Belichick in a span of 24 hours. Combined, these 3 accomplished quite a lot this century as head coaches:

Why didn't the #Patriots trade Bill Belichick?
— Henry McKenna (@henrycmckenna) January 11, 2024
Too complicated.
1) Belichick doesn't want his next team to give up draft capital. He wants to do what's best for HIS team and a trade is what's best for the Patriots, who are no longer HIS. (Surreal.)
2) The value is hard. What is…
Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, and Pete Carroll have all left their teams or retired in the last 24 hours. We often throw the phrase around without much meaning, but this truly is the end of an era. It’s wild to see.

On his own, Tom Brady would have won two or three Super Bowls. On his own, Bill Belichick would have had a couple. It took working together to go to nine and win six.
