NFL team owner has acquired another pro team

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new golf league is getting a new major investor from the NFL.

AMB Sports and Entertainment, owned by Home Depot (HD) -) co-founder Arthur Blank, has gained the rights to a franchise in the TGL, the golf league developed by Woods and McIlroy’s TMRW Sports, according to a report by Sportico.

Blank and his firm also own the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, which are valued by Sportico at $5.15 billion, and the MLS club Atlanta United.

The TGL Atlanta franchise is the third in the league. The other two are TGL Los Angeles owned by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams; and TGL Boston, owned by the Fenway Sports Group, which also owns other pro teams like the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC.

TGL is also backed by the PGA Tour, which already has a partnership with Blank as the businessman owns and operates the PGA Tour Superstore which will have 66 locations around the country by the end of the year.

The financial specifications of the deal were not disclosed, but a TGL presentation from earlier this year showed that each of the founding teams will hold a 3% stake in the league. Six teams are expected for the inaugural season of the arena-based golf league in January 2024.

More Sports Business:

The league is expected to feature a number of PGA Tour stars including Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Max Homa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Adam Scott, and Xander Shcauffele.

The investor group of TMRW Sports also consists of many notable names in sports and entertainment, such as the NBA’s Stephen Curry, MLB’s Shohei Ohtani, Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton, and singer Justin Bieber.
