NFL star ruled out for rest of season after finishing game despite broken shoulder

Arizona Cardinals superstar safety Budda Baker will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his shoulder in the loss to Tampa Bay Buccaneers, although he managed to finish the match.

Baker reportedly injured his shoulder early in the game, but stayed in for every defensive snap of the game until the last play - the last game of the Cardinals at their home this season.

NFL reporter and insider Ian Rapoport tweeted: " AZ Cardinals Pro Bowl S Budda Baker, one of the heartbeats of the team and its captain, suffered a fractured shoulder during the loss last night and is out the final two games, per me and Mike Garafolo. Unbelievably, he did not come out of the game."

Baker has had another tremendous individual year, with 85 tackles and two interception as he continues to play as one of the best safeties in the league, but it has not been the same story for his team.

Showing why he's a beloved figure in the organisation and with the fans, Baker even stuck around to sign fans autographs and posed for pictures after the game.

It has been another disappointing season for the Cardinals with much promised, but they have failed to live up to expectations once again, with question being loomed on their future.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim could both be in the firing line after multiple years of not making the playoffs whilst having Pro Bowl calibre quarterback Kyler Murray and a number of star players on the roster.

One of those, DeAndre Hopkins, could be moved on this summer - and that could see new draft picks aid the front office to build around Murray - after giving him a huge extension this off-season.

Elsewhere, it was also announced that their other defensive leader, JJ Watt, will retire after this season after 12 years in the league.

Watt appeared to be in tears as he walked off the field at the University of Phoenix Stadium after the Cardinals. Many assumed it would be his final home game in Arizona before moving on to a different team, given he is a free agent at the end of the season, but it now seems to be the final home game of his career.
