NFL star has epic response after blocking his own team-mate's punt with his butt

'Butt Punt' is now trending on Twitter, after a bizarre incident in the Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills game saw Trent Sherfield's back side block Thomas Morstead's attempted punt.

Leading by just four points, and attempting to close out the game against the Bills, Morstead attempted to punt the ball downfield, but they had to settle for a safety after the ball was blocked by Sherfield. Fans couldn't believe what they had witnessed, and Sherfield has already responded to becoming a meme online.

"My cheeks have a big W tatted on them," Sherfield wrote on Twitter as the clip of the incident began to go viral. And even now receiver Tyreek Hill was amazed, as he admitted it was a first for him too.

"I’ve never seen a butt punt," Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill told reporters after the game. He added, referring to Sherfield: "Next time, he’s gonna catch it with his butt cheeks, because he’s got strong butt cheeks."

Thankfully though, Sherfield avoided further embarrassment as the Dolphins held on to win the game, but Josh Allen will be kicking himself for not inspiring a Bills comeback. Due to the safety, the Bills needed just a field goal to move into the lead, but the quarterback missed a great chance to secure a minimum of six points right at the end.

The Bills wasted what appeared to be an easy opportunity for a touchdown, and the offensive coordinator was fuming up in the box at the Gillette Stadium. It's the Bills first loss of the season, while Miami are now 3-0.

"This is one game," Allen said after the game. "We'll learn from this one tomorrow, take it on the chin and again prepare for next week.

"That's all we can do. We can move forward. Again, we're 2-1. I'd like to be 3-0, but 2-1 we can still accomplish everything we want to accomplish."

Although Miami were once again impressive, Allen was convinced that it was the Bills that 'beat themselves' after a poor performance. "Just didn't play good situational football tonight. Our defense played very well. Special teams had a really good day. Offensive side of the ball, we didn't take care of business, and that starts with me.

"We really beat ourselves tonight. Credit to them, they had a really good game plan. They came out and did what they had to do. There's obviously plays we want back, and that's going to happen over the course of every single game, this one especially."

The Dolphins next face the Cincinnati Bengals who finally won their first game of the season on Sunday. They beat the New York Jets 27-12 to get off the mark, after a slow start by last year's Super Bowl finalists.
