Davante Adams has been charged with misdemeanour assault after footage emerged of the Las Vegas Raiders receiver shoving a cameraman to the floor following his team's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Adams' side were narrowly edged out 30-29 on Monday night and as he left the field came into contact with the cameraman, pushing him to the ground. The NFL star had issued an apology following the incident at the Arrowhead Stadium, while his coach Josh McDaniels said he didn't believe there was "any intent behind it on his part".
But charges were filed on Wednesday morning with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department calling the push an "intentional, overt act that caused whiplash, headache and possible minor concussion". A court date has now been set for Thursday, November 10.
The NFL is also investigating Adams' actions from the night, and he could face a fine and suspension.
Adams issued an apology in his postgame comments to the media and then later on Twitter. He said: "He jumped in front of me coming off the field.
"I kind of pushed him. He ended up on the ground. I want to apologise to him for that. That was just frustration mixed with him really just running in front of me. I shouldn't have responded that way, but that's the way I responded. I want to apologise to him for that."
Meanwhile, Adams' Raiders coach Josh McDaniels has backed his star following the ugly moment at the Arrowhead Stadium.
McDaniels said: "I know that was an unfortunate situation. We obviously don't want any of our guys to be doing anything like that. He knows that. He's very well aware of that.
"But I know the person. I don't think there was any intent behind it on his part. But whatever they [the NFL] ask of us, whatever they need from us, obviously, we'll comply."
The Las Vegas Raiders fell to a 1-4 record after Monday night's loss, with the Chiefs moving to the top of the division with a 4-1 start to the season.
