Damar Hamlin's uncle says the Buffalo Bills star is "trending upwards in a positive way" after he had to be resuscitated TWICE following a terrifying collapse during his side's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.
Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest in the first quarter after taking a blow while making a routine tackle. After getting back to his feet, Hamlin fell to the ground again and lay motionless as his heart went into cardiac arrest.
The 24-year-old was resuscitated on the field by paramedics who gave him CPR and used a defibrillator to restart his heart. Hamlin was then taken to hospital, where his uncle Dorrian Glenn said he had to be resuscitated again.
Speaking to CNN, Glenn said: "His heart had went out so they had to resuscitate him twice. They resuscitated him on the field before they brought him to the hospital and then they resuscitated him a second time when they got him to the hospital.
"I'm not a crier, but I've never cried so hard in my life. Just to know, like, my nephew basically died on the field and they brought him back to life."
Glenn added that the family are taking things "day by day", but said things were "trending upwards in a positive way". He added: "They sedated him just to give a better chance for him to just continue to heal better.
"We are just taking it day by day. It seems like he's trending upwards in a positive way."
Hamlin remains in intensive care and is currently on a ventilator, with Glenn adding to NFL.com: "They are trying to get him to breathe on his own. He is still in ICU and sedated while they continue to administer medical treatment.
"It's still very much day by day. Once he gets out of the ICU I will feel better. My nephew is humble. He is going to be floored by the love."
