NFL star Aaron Rodgers 'never signed up' for public scrutiny: 'I hated fame, I despised it...'

NFL star Aaron Rodgers says he 'never signed up' for public scrutiny

Aaron Rodgers "never signed up" for public scrutiny when he became a footballer.

The 41-year-old NFL star became known around the world when he won the Super Bowl in 2010 but insisted that he had never sought out a career in football for the notoriety and instead just had a love for the game.

Speaking in his Netflix docuseries 'Aaron Rodgers: Enigma', he said: "I always find it interesting when people say, in reference to the off-the-field attention, ‘Well, this is what you signed up for.

"I say 'F*** that!' I never signed up for that.

"I signed up for football because I love the game and I got great at it because I’m hyper-competitive and super-motivated. But there’s this whole other part that comes with it that’s a lot of great stuff and a lot of f****** weird stuff!"

During his time in the spotlight, Aaron has dated fellow celebrities like Olivia Munn and Danica Patrick, and was at one time engaged to Shailene Woodley but admitted that he "didn't do [himself] any favours" by dating those also in the public eye.

Aaron - who is now in a relationship with Mallory Edens, the daughter of Wes Edens, one of the Milwaukee Bucks' primary owners - added that he "hated" fame at first because he struggled to go anywhere anonymously.

He said: "I didn’t do myself any favours with some of the girls I dated after that that were in the public eye.

"I definitely hated it at first – like, really despised it.

"I enjoyed my private life. I enjoyed being able to go places. But from Super Bowl MVP, MVP, State Farm commercials, that got a little bit more difficult."
