A random Tuesday in the offseason lull between the Combine and the league’s official start to free agency turned out to be one of the NFL’s busiest days of the year.
Aaron Rodgers announced he’d return to Green Bay for at least one more season, potentially agreeing to a market-resetting contract in the process. The Seattle Seahawks went in the other direction, kicking off their rebuild by trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a gift basket of draft picks and players. One day later, Carson Wentz was shipped to Washington in a swap involving multiple Day 2 selections.
Those deals don’t just affect the three teams involved in them, however. They’ll ripple throughout the offseason as franchises scramble to solidify the most important depth chart on their roster. Rodgers and Wilson were both best case scenarios among an otherwise limited crop of tradable, free agent, and NFL Draft QBs. Some of these players saw their stock rise after the first dominoes in an unfolding string of quarterback moves tumbled. Others have had their demand stifled as their paths to a starting job muddied.
