We’ve seen some, uh, rough roughing the passer calls in the NFL this year.
And the one we saw on Sunday night might be the worst of them all.
With the Los Angeles Chargers facing a third down at their own 18-yard line on Sunday night in the eventual win, Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips sacked Justin Herbert. It seemed fairly clean — no hands to the face, and it looked like he tried not to put his full body weight on Herbert.
But the yellow flag flew. And NFL players — both current and former — had thoughts on it on Twitter:
This was just called Roughing the passer.
Just AWFUL. Embarrassing. pic.twitter.com/jt07ZDQdyh
