Christian McCaffrey won the award last year but played his first game in week 10 this year.
Below, we look at the top five favorites to win the NFL OPOY award and predict which player will win the NFL OPOY award.
Top Five Favorites To Win NFL OPOY Award
The NFL OPOY award goes to the best offensive player in the league.
Below are the top five favorites for the NFL OPOY award.
- 1. Saquon Barkley (+105)
- 2. Derrick Henry (+140)
- 3. Ja’Marr Chase (+500)
- 4. Lamar Jackson (+1400)
- 5. Justin Jefferson (+1800)
Saquon Barkley (+105)
Saquon Barkley is the favorite to win the NFL OPOY award.
Barkley is second in the league in rushing yards (1,137) and tied for fourth in rushing TDs (8).
His numbers would look much better if not for Jalen Hurts’ numerous rushing touchdowns. Hurts has 11 rushing touchdowns, ranking second in the league.
No other quarterback has stolen as many rushing touchdowns as Hurts has this year.
Barkley has 23 receptions, 210 receiving yards, and two receiving TDs.
He has six games of recording over 100 rushing yards this season. The Eagles have played 10 games, which means Barkley has recorded over 100 rushing yards in more than half of Philly’s games.
Barkley’s numbers would look even better if Hurts did not take as many rushing TDs away.
Barkley is the favorite to win the NFL OPOY as he is having a superb season.
Derrick Henry (+140)
Derrick Henry is the second favorite to win the NFL OPOY award.
Henry is first in the league in rushing yards (1,185) and rushing TDs (13).
He averages 107.7 rushing yards per game and has scored a rushing TD in 10 of 11 games.
Henry recorded over 130 rushing yards in four games this year.
He has scored two receiving TDs this year, recording a total of 15 TDs and he has scored a rushing or receiving TD in all 11 games.
Baltimore has a dangerous offense and Henry is a big reason why their offense is one of the best in the league.
Henry is the second favorite to win the NFL OPOY as he is having an excellent season.
Ja’Marr Chase (+500)
Ja’Marr Chase is the third favorite to win the NFL OPOY award.
Chase is first in the league in receptions (73), receiving yards (1,056), receiving TDs (12), and receptions of 40+ yards (6). He is currently winning the triple crown by leading the league in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving TDs.
Chase deserves to have odds similar to Henry and Barkley. However, the Bengals being 4-7 and outside of a playoff spot is hurting Chase’s odds of winning the OPOY.
If Cincinnati can go on a run and make the playoffs, Chase’s odds will go up.
Despite an incredible season, Chase is a distant third in odds to win the NFL OPOY award.
Lamar Jackson (+1400)
Lamar Jackson is the fourth favorite to win the NFL OPOY award.
Jackson is second in the league in passing yards (2,876) and passing TDs (25). He also has 584 rushing yards and two rushing TDs. Jackson only has thrown three interceptions this season.
He is having an MVP-caliber season and is one of the most dangerous players in the league.
Jackson is the fourth favorite to win the NFL OPOY award.
Justin Jefferson (+1800)
Justin Jefferson is the fifth favorite to win the NFL OPOY award.
Jefferson is 10th in the league in receptions (59), second in receiving yards (912), and tied for fifth in receiving TDs (5).
He leads the league in receptions of over 20+ yards.
Minnesota is exceeding all expectations this season. Sam Darnold has been playing well and Jefferson helps Darnold a lot. Having Jefferson to throw to makes Darnold’s job much easier.
Jefferson is the fifth favorite to win the NFL OPOY award.
Who Will Win The NFL OPOY Award?
Three players have the best chance of winning the award. Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and Ja’Marr Chase are the best options.
Cincinnati being 4-7 and outside a playoff spot is hurting Chase’s odds. While Barkley is a +105 odd and Henry is a +140 odd, Chase is a +500 odd to win the award.
However, Chase is first in the league in receptions (73), receiving yards (1,056), receiving TDs (12), and receptions of 40+ yards (6). He is currently winning the triple crown by leading the league in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving TDs.
Cooper Kupp was the last wide receiver to win the Triple Crown (2021) and he won the NFL OPOY award.
If the Bengals can go on a run and make the playoffs, this will help Chase’s case a lot.
Despite being the third favorite (+500), Ja’Marr Chase will win the NFL OPOY award.
