NFL, NFLPA reviewing events surrounding Patriots WR DeVante Parker’s departure with concussion

The NFL Players Association initiated an inquiry into the events that took place prior to Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker leaving Monday night’s game with a concussion, per an ESPN report.

The NFLPA wants to know why the game wasn’t stopped when Parker displayed obvious concussion symptoms.

Parker showed unsteadiness in the immediate aftermath of getting up after a hit in the first half. He had made a 10-yard catch, getting hit and tackled by Arizona Cardinals defensive back Antonio Hamilton.

Somehow, the spotter didn’t see or notice Parker looking incredibly shaky as a result of the play.

It took teammate Nelson Agholor waving his arms frantically with a wobbly Parker about to line up for the next play, to call attention to his injured teammate, and get him to the sideline to be looked at.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked about the length of time it took before anyone realized Parker was displaying symptoms of a concussion. Belichick said it was hard to notice from the sidelines.

“Ultimately, I think the players made the right decision,” said Belichick. “I’m not sure how much of it was (us) or how much of it was the spotter. The spotter called down on Devin (McCourty) later in the game. It’s a process.”

Whatever the case, the matter will now be investigated by the league.
