Don’t shoot the messenger, OK? We’re just relaying the info.
In his post-combine NFL mock draft on Touchdown Wire, Doug Farrar has the Chicago Bears trading quarterback Justin Fields to the Washington Commanders. No big deal so far, right?
After that, the Commanders turn around and trade quarterback Sam Howell to the Denver Broncos. With their QB need “filled,” the Broncos then select Alabama pass rusher Dallas Turner with the 12th overall pick.
From Farrar’s mock:
With Fields in the nation’s capital, the Broncos trade for Sam Howell, and go EDGE with their 12th overall pick after designating Russell Wilson as a post-June 1 cut to manage his massive dead cap hit.
Surprisingly, Farrar has Bo Nix (No. 8) and Michael Penix (No. 13) going off the board before J.J. McCarthy, who falls all the way down to No. 45. It’s hard to imagine Denver passing on McCarthy if he’s available at No. 12, even if they do acquire a veteran this spring.
