Former NFL stars Nick Lowery and Tony Richardson recently embarked on a mission to Israel to raise awareness and advocate for the release of Israeli and American hostages held captive by Hamas. The trip, organized by Athletes for Israel, proved to be impactful, as it coincided with a diplomatic breakthrough resulting in the release of three hostages.

During their visit, Lowery, a renowned placekicker, and Richardson, a star fullback, met with Israeli officials, including President Isaac Herzog and Speaker of the Knesset Amir Ohana. They also engaged with Israel Defense Forces soldiers and visited significant sites such as the Nova music festival massacre memorial.

Lowery, who is actively involved in combating antisemitism and racism, emphasized the importance of using his platform as a former athlete to advocate for social causes. He is part of the #SportSpeaksUp campaign, led by Eric Rubin of Project Max, which aims to fight racism, antisemitism, and intolerance through sports.

One of the focal points of Lowery's advocacy is the case of Naama Levy, a 20-year-old Israeli soldier abducted by Hamas. Lowery highlighted Levy's spirit and dedication to promoting peace, describing her as a moral and caring individual devoted to helping others. Levy's family members shared anecdotes about her compassionate nature and her involvement in initiatives promoting dialogue between Israeli and Palestinian youth.

Lowery's visit to Hostage Square in Tel Aviv, where he sat with Levy's family, underscored the human impact of the ongoing hostage situation. The emotional connection formed with the families of the hostages left a lasting impression on Lowery, who expressed his commitment to supporting them in their quest for justice and freedom.

Reflecting on his experiences in Israel, Lowery emphasized the resilience and strength of the Israeli people in the face of adversity. He recounted moments of solidarity and hope, such as his interaction with Druze children in Majdal Shams, where he witnessed the power of sports in healing trauma and fostering unity.

Lowery's dedication to advocating for the release of hostages and combating discrimination stems from his personal history, as his grandmother documented atrocities at the Dachau concentration camp. His deep-rooted commitment to bridging divides between different communities drives his ongoing efforts to promote understanding and solidarity.

As Lowery and Richardson continue their advocacy work, they remain steadfast in their support for the hostages and their families, embodying the spirit of compassion and unity that transcends boundaries and inspires positive change.
