NFL insider mentions 3 candidates with Jaguars head coaching job

In Albert Breer’s latest edition of the Monday Morning Quarterback, he mentioned three candidates in particular when discussing the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching opening.

In his ‘quick hits’ section, Breer noted that Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen “did well” in his interview with the Jaguars.

This also aligns with another report, where one senior NFL executive said that Coen’s interview was “outstanding.”

Along with mentioning Coen as someone who “may or may not get that (the Jaguars) job,” Breer would also name-drop Lions’ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh as two other candidates the head coaching vacancy could go to.

Based on the numerous reports that are out there when it comes to Johnson, it sounds like he will be deciding between Jacksonville, Las Vegas, and Chicago. Of note, the Raiders did just bring in a general manager candidate to interview with strong ties to Johnson.

I don’t think anyone is surprised that Coen and Johnson are among the names tied to the Jaguars, but Saleh being connected is a bit of a new one.

The only murmurs we’ve heard about him potentially being the Jaguars next head coach came in a report by The Athletic, where it was said there was some “buzz” around Saleh and that opening.

One candidate that Breer didn’t mention, but that Ian Rapoport said was “high up” for the Jaguars is Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

As of Monday, the Jaguars can begin their second round of interviews and do so in-person. I would expect things to start moving quickly with the Lions’ eliminated from the playoffs and both Johnson and Glenn able to take these interview requests.
