Only one team interviewed Dave Canales for a head-coaching job this offseason. But that would be the only opportunity the 42-year-old star needed.
As first reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Thursday, the Carolina Panthers are planning on hiring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator as their new head coach. Canales was one of known three candidates to receive a second chat with the organization, and now we know why . . .
Posted this three days ago. Word is Canales absolutely crushed his virtual interview last Thursday and followed it with another great one this week. Anyone who knows or has worked with him knows he’s all juice , all the time. https://t.co/4t1Ij6jvMj

That “great one” took place yesterday, and it also produced some impressive results . . .
I am told per league source Dave Canales had a great interview with the Panthers on Wednesday and he was able to "paint a picture'' of what he wants to build.

Those results shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given his words from two weeks ago. Canales, while heading into the Wild Card Round against the Philadelphia Eagles, was asked about his chance to nab the opening in Carolina.
“It’s something that I’ve been thinking about for a really long time,” he said back on Jan. 12. “So I have some stuff prepared, but I really haven’t had time to look at that this week with a formidable in the opponent like the Eagles that are comin’ in here. So it’s gonna require all of us, all of me to be really locked in. And then we’ll play Monday night and we’ll take it from there.
“And at some point, I’ll have a conversation with them and I’ll be really excited and fired up to say the same things that we’ve been talking about here—about building a team that plays championship type of football from the minute you get here.”
Well, that building starts very soon.
