Steph Curry has taken a backseat to Joe Burrow—at least when it comes to being the comparison for Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young. (And hey, at least we’re in the same sport now.)
The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner has once again been compared to the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner. Not long after Panthers safety Vonn Bell made the connection between his new teammate and his old Cincinnati Bengals bud, ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano did the same.
He wrote the following about Young meeting expectations this offseason:
It’s hard to know what to expect from rookies, but the stuff I’m hearing out of Carolina about Young reminds me a little of what I heard from the Bengals about Burrow in the 2020 offseason. They expected him to play well right out of the gate, and he did.
Although his entire rookie campaign was cut short due to a torn ACL, Burrow impressed throughout the summer and into the fall. And what Young has done thus far—as a passer, a leader and a teammate—is apparently giving off some “cool” vibes.
Graziano also opines that it wouldn’t be surprising, at least to him, if Young leads the Panthers to an NFC South title in 2023:
Every team in the NFC South is playing a soft-looking schedule, so we could see these teams win more games than expected. But I don’t hate Carolina as a division-title pick — I’m drinking the Bryce Young Kool-Aid.
