There has been a ton of speculation regarding the next head coach of the New England Patriots. Several names have been thrown around, including recently fired former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel.
However, NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran still believes that Jerod Mayo will be the next head coach for the Patriots.
“We reported a month ago about that a decision had been made, and the Patriots would be parting ways with Bill Belichick,” said Curran, when appearing on Arbella Early Edition. “That remains what I believe will happen this week, in the near future at least, and I believe that they will still stay on the course with Jerod Mayo as the next head coach.”

Mayo has been on the team’s coaching staff since 2019, starting as the team’s linebackers coach. He has been a highly sought-after assistant.
This is certainly an interesting statement given how Mayo agreed to stay on with New England last offseason. He turned down a head-coaching interview opportunity with the Carolina Panthers and elected to stay with the Patriots.
Could that all have been the dominoes falling into place for this very moment?
