Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC divisional round was a game to forget for the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott. The Cowboys quarterback threw two costly interceptions and struggled to make an impact against the Niners defense. Cowboys fans were right to be upset.
But you just wouldn’t expect to see the official Dallas Cowboys Twitter account essentially throw Prescott under the bus. At least that’s what it looked like.
After the game, the Cowboys shared an article from team staff writer Patrik Walker. The team promoted the article by tweeting the story’s excerpt along with the link. The problem was that in quote tweets, NFL links don’t unfurl. So, many users saw a tweet that looked like this:
What they tweeted was true, but it came off looking especially harsh from a brand account.
Fans couldn’t believe that the actual Cowboys account basically called out Prescott like that — even if it wasn’t the tweet’s true intention.
This was how Twitter reacted
Even the Dallas Cowboys official account is dumping on Dak. https://t.co/1DkkkIuRTP

This is from the Twitter account of the franchise that hasn't made the Conference championship round in 26 years. (Bus, meet our QB)
Meanwhile the Eagles will be playing in their 7th NFC Title game during that time.🤣🏈 #FlyEaglesFly https://t.co/QIvWgRb2wU— Mike Catalana (@MikeCatalana) January 23, 2023
Even the Cowboys hate being a fan of the Cowboys now😭 https://t.co/Vt65houxoM

This is so..weird? INTs in first half, tied 6-6 halftime. Last 3 SF drives took over 15 mins. Team took 45 seconds to punt lacking clock awareness before 2-min warning. Out-rushed, more penalties.
Blaming your QB who’s received undue heat for his play all year? Who does this? https://t.co/tb0Nc61TOP— Maddy Hudak (@MaddyHudak_94) January 23, 2023
