We’re not quite at the running-out-of-bounds-for-a-safety level of Detroit Lions hilarity, but the 2022 edition of the Lions still manage to embarrass themselves — even in competitive games.
The Lions dropped to 1-6 on the season after Sunday’s 31-27 Week 8 loss to the Dolphins, and it will be tough to ignore the rough series that cornerback Amani Oruwariye had to start the third quarter. After allowing a couple receptions on a long Dolphins drive, Oruwariye completely lost where he was with Miami lining up for first and goal from the one-yard line.
You can watch a lot of football, and you probably won’t see any player line up offsides more blatantly than Oruwariye did right there.
Dying at how far offsides the Lions defender at the top of the screen lined up pic.twitter.com/CU7sklcQ0R

Like, how did he not realize that the ball was behind him there? He’s looking right at it! It wasn’t even close.
The Dolphins would score on the next play, and NFL fans used that screenshot as a great excuse to mock the Lions.
This was how Twitter reacted
This is really just the first thing they teach you. Didn’t matter .. but line up right. https://t.co/EqXKtI7KqH

Yep, we're real proud of the defense we have in Detroit… 🙄https://t.co/mMHG2RCAbn

This is why I don’t wanna hear the “but they’re young/it’s a rebuild” excuses.
High school players have better situational awareness than this. https://t.co/2PzH8carKL

Pretty much sums up how bad the Lions defense is. His entire body is offsides and he’s looking at the ball. Dear lord, this defense is awful. #lions #Dolphins #nfl https://t.co/OYvCSUKGvc

There’s offsides and then there is OFFSIDES https://t.co/jpNaZG51Ij

If you are gonna line up offsides, might as well make it count. https://t.co/PGcLAHXufz

That’s the Detroit Lions in a nutshell.
