New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers may be forced into retirement, according to a recent report from The Athletic.
Diana Russini recently reported that Rodgers may not want to play for the Jets in 2025. The news comes just a few weeks after New York went all-in by acquiring Davante Adams, an experiment that ultimately failed.
In fact, New York has inched closer to earning the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft than making the postseason. According to Tankathon.com, the Jets will enter Week 13 tied for the fifth-worst record in the NFL at 3-8.
NFL Executive Calls Rodgers An Organization Killer
Rodgers has not looked like his old self since returning from the Achilles injury that he suffered in his Jets’ debut last season. In fact, the Jets’ QB is averaging the fewest yards per attempt (6.4) in his career as a starter.
Now, with former general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh no longer in New York, it appears Rodgers’ days are also numbered. Douglas and Saleh were two of the main forces behind bringing Rodgers to New York, but with the organization going in a new direction, it might make sense for the front office to make a change under center as well.
The move would also do some damage to Rodgers’ legacy in the NFL. Once thought to be a generational talent, Rodgers will finish his career with just one Super Bowl ring,
One NFL executive even went as far as saying that Rodgers’ NFL career is effectively over, calling him an “organization killer” while telling ESPN’s Kimberley Martin that there is “no market for that” in the league today.
Brett Favre Says ‘Something’s Missing’ From Rodgers This Season
Even Rodgers’ former teammates have lost faith in the former Super Bowl champion. Brett Favre recently spoke with TMZ and admitted that he was among the supporters who may have gotten it wrong this time around.
“I’m as shocked as anyone. I was singing the praises of the team and, of course, Aaron,” Favre said of the Jets’ struggles. “At times, we’ve seen glimpses of the old Aaron. Honestly, I don’t know how he feels physically. I don’t know if that’s an issue. Something’s missing.”
