What do those inside the NFL think about Bryce Young’s first month of regular-season ball? ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler just sniffed out some answers.
The worldwide leader’s senior reporter recently reached out to several league executives for their early impressions of this year’s rookie quarterbacks. As far as what’s working for Young, one said that the No. 1 overall pick is very much in touch with the game.

“You see intangibles come to the surface,” an NFC exec said. “He’s got a great feel for the game, and his quick release translates to the NFL game. His ability to throw off-platform will help him.”
But as far as what hasn’t gone too well, another stated that the Carolina Panthers have not done a sufficient enough job of surrounding the 22-year-old with an adequate supporting cast.
“He has nowhere to throw the football,” an NFL personnel official said. “He’s got major leaks around him and is in for a long year if the things working against him don’t get fixed.”
Some of those leaks include a lack of explosion out of the wide receiver position, where Young’s pass catchers aren’t having the easiest of times gaining separation. And other (more literal) leaks sit along the offensive line, which has allowed a league-leading 60 pressures through three weeks.
Young’s numbers, in turn, haven’t been so great either. He completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 299 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions over his pair of starts.
