Last year, the two teams playing in the Hall of Fame Game were announced on Feb. 13. The three years prior to that, the teams were announced on Feb. 23, Feb. 16 and Feb. 11, respectively.
It’s now Feb. 19 and the NFL hasn’t yet announced which two teams will play in the 2019 Hall of Fame Game. Denver Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis suggested earlier this month that we would know the 2019 matchup by now.
“I can’t confirm it, but the sense I get is that we’re going to be in the game. We’ll let the league answer that next week,” Ellis said on Feb. 2.
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and former cornerback Champ Bailey are part of this year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame class, making the team a strong candidate for the annual exhibition.
Denver, the Atlanta Falcons and the Kansas City Chiefs are the three finalists for this year’s game, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The game does not count toward a team’s regular four-game preseason schedule — it’s an extra contest.
The Broncos have not played in a Hall of Fame Game since 2004. This year’s game will take place on Thursday, Aug. 1 in Canton, Ohio.
