A lot of the focus on the NFL Draft is once again in the offensive positions, but whoever drafts Tyree Wilson will be receiving a very exciting defensive prospect.
Wilson spent his entire high-school and college career in Texas, beginning his college football years at Texas A&M before switching to Texas Tech. The 22-year-old declared for the Draft as a senior, and was selected for the All-American first team after a stunning 2022 season.
The defensive end is projected to be a top-10 draft pick, with many mock drafts having him as a contender to be the first non-quarterback off the board given his impressive and intriguing physical tools and skillset. Wilson has quietly been going about his business so far in his career, but there's a lot to be excited about.
Tyree Wilson's college career
Wilson stepped up all parts of his game last season, and Texas Tech's overall record of 8-5 would've been a lot worse without him. Wilson matched his career-high of seven sacks last season, equalling his tally from 2021.
But it was total tackles that really shoved Wilson into the spotlight, as he made 61 last season - almost double his total from the previous year. The six-foot-six giant has a length advantage over many, and could be a valuable asset in the NFL.
Weighing in at 275 pounds, Wilson certainly is a force out on the field, but doesn't shy away from applying pressure. He put up over 50 pressures last season, and his dogged style of play will see him go far in the big league.
Tyree Wilson's net worth
With Wilson entering the Draft, his net worth is now an estimated $1million (£800,000) according to Sportskeeda. Wilson's college NIL deal alone is worth $542,000, and he also reportedly has an ongoing deal with Keller Williams Sports and Entertainment.
Wilson lived a quieter life than some of his fellow Draft prospects, meaning that a lot of his day-to-day life is unknown. But in the NFL that's likely to change, especially when signing his rookie deal.
Should he remain injury free, Wilson is on for a successful career due to his presence out on the field. It's expected that his rookie year could be a slow start, but once he gets going Wilson will be hard to stop.
Tyree Wilson's NFL prospects
Wilson was asked by NFL Network's Jeffri Chadiha what he would bring to an NFL team, and it's fair to say that the defensive end doesn't lack confidence in how own ability. "Firstly they're getting a good person, on and off the field and somebody who's a dog and who's hungry.
"Somebody that's ready to be a leader on day one, somebody that's ready to learn and also sack the quarterback." Wilson intends to be in Kansas City for the NFL Draft, as he wants his family there for the moment.
"I'll be there in Kansas, with my family and hopefully with some coaches at Texas Tech," he added. A foot injury kept Wilson out of the Pro Day events, but his 2022 season speaks for itself.
