Houston Texans running back Darius Anderson has been arrested over charges of burglary and intent to commit assault after he allegedly broke into a woman's home last week.
On Friday, the NFL hopeful reportedly broke into the home in Houston, Texas, and followed the woman into the bathroom. After she called the police, Anderson fled the scene according to reports in Pro Football Talk.
He was arrested shortly afterwards and released after posting bond. Anderson is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday. Anderson was initially charged with burglary with intent to rape, but this was changed by Houston Police on Tuesday after what they said was a 'coding error', report TMZ.
“We are aware of the report involving Darius Anderson,” the Texans said in a statement. “We are gathering information and have no further comment at this time.”
The running back is prohibited from contacting the accuser, returning to the home, and banned from possessing a firearm as part of his bail agreement. The woman reportedly told law enforcement authorities that the 24-year-old left after he broke into the woman's town home.
Anderson spent time on the Texans’ practice squad last season before signing a futures deal with the team. The Dallas Cowboys signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2020, and he joined the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad after the Cowboys waived him.
Indianapolis twice elevated him to the active roster, but he did not play. The news comes right as the Texans were set to welcome players to training camp ahead of the 2022 NFL regular season.
Anderson was a standout football player at TCU, where had 768 rushing yards as a sophomore and 598 yards as a junior. In his senior season, Anderson rushed for 823 yards and managed to earn a spot in the Senior Bowl.
