NFL analyst’s latest mock draft: Would the Commanders trade out of No. 2?

The Vikings, now possessing two first-round picks, are the talk of draft analysts… will they attempt to move up to No. 2 in a trade with the Commanders?

Daniel Jeremiah, NFL media analyst, published his 2024 mock draft 3.0. The first thing he mentioned, of course, is the Vikings’ recent trade, and he is anticipating what might be a wild April 25 round-one draft night.

As for the Commanders? Jeremiah does not think the Vikings will trade up to No. 2 with Washington. He does see the Vikings trading with the Cardinals at the No. 4 spot and taking Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy to replace former Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The Commanders, he feels, will stay put in the second overall position, and after the Bears select USC quarterback Caleb Williams, North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye will be the choice of the Commanders.

Succinctly, Jeremiah states, “I don’t have any more clarity on this pick than I did in my last mock. The Commanders did move on from Sam Howell, and I’m sticking with Maye here.”

There are many Commanders fans and those in the media who have voiced their hope the Commanders will choose last season’s Heisman Trophy winner, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Jeremiah has Daniels going in the next selection (3rd overall) to the New England Patriots. Thus, Jeremiah is predicting that for the first time in NFL Draft history, the first four selections will all be quarterbacks.

Rounding out his top five, the New York Jets trade up with the Los Angeles Chargers to take whom most analysts feel might be the best player in the draft, Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Would the Chargers pass on the opportunity to pair Harrison with Herbert?

Here is Jeremiah’s 3.0 mock draft first round

The Commanders are in need of a long-term answer at offensive tackle. An observation is that Jeremiah predicts seven offensive tackles to be taken in the first round. The second choice for the Commanders currently is No. 36 the fourth selection of the second round.
