NFL analyst is hearing only 2 teams have Jayden Daniels over Drake Maye

It’s no secret the Washington Commanders are coming away from the 2024 NFL draft with a quarterback. Don’t buy any of the talk that Washington may reunite with its former starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins.

With Caleb Williams likely to go No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears, the Commanders will likely decide between Drake Maye (North Carolina) and Jayden Daniels (LSU). While there has been talk of J.J. McCarthy (Michigan) in the mix there, too, it’s unlikely.

We’ve heard various reports about which quarterback Washington likes best. So when you hear it from multiple places, no one likely knows.

The NFL combine is often where many offseason rumors begin. Some of that is by design; other times, teams can’t hide how much they like a specific player.

We remain unsure of what Washington thinks about Maye and Daniels, but one NFL insider said he heard at the combine that most teams prefer Maye.

“I’ve only found two teams that have Jayden Daniels over Drake Maye, said Connor Rogers of NBC Sports in a recent episode of the “NFL Stock Exchange” podcast with Trevor Sikkema. “One of them is way too far out for it to matter. Another one is in striking distance, but once again, I’m not convinced it’s going to be very easy to get into that range of the draft.”

Is this an insight into Washington’s thinking? No, not necessarily. We don’t know the names of the teams who like Daniels better, but if he’s hearing multiple teams like Maye better, that could be an indication.
