The 2022 NFL draft is just three weeks away and the mock drafts are flying fast and furious all over the internet. It’s also season for wild speculation, although with all of the activity we’ve seen thus far this offseason, nothing is off the table.
The New York Giants hold the fifth and seventh selections in this year’s draft and many believe they will be getting offers from teams seeking to trade up and may not be able to pass on one of those offers.
NFL.com’s Chad Reuter agrees. He sees a perfect trade partner for the Giants in the Seattle Seahawks, who are also in full rebuilding mode.
Seahawks receive:
No. 5 overall pick (Round 1)Giants receive:
No. 9 overall (Round 1)
No. 72 overall (Round 3)
No. 145 overall (Round 5, from DET via DEN)
Reuter contends that the Seahawks will be seeking to replace Russell Wilson at quarterback and will be in perfect position at No. 5 to grab the player they want. With Carolina likely to go quarterback at No. 6, this makes a ton of sense for Seattle.
As for what the Giants get out of this, Reuter sees them still getting what they want/need with the picks they have.
The Giants would surely love to move down within the top 10 and grab future picks to continue building out their roster under new GM Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll. They could add an offensive lineman like Ikem “Ickey” Ekwonu with the seventh overall pick (acquired from the Bears last year) or use both the seventh and the ninth overall picks to double up on defense, selecting cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, safety Kyle Hamilton and/or edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.
The Giants also pick up an extra Day 2 pick and a fifth rounder which would give them three picks in the third round and three in the fifth.
