NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Sept. 21, 2023

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The top five remained the same, with undefeated Buford still the No. 1 team in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The (18-0) Wolves collected three more victories to stay first nationally for a fifth week, and eighth week overall dating back to last year. Buford defeated Mill Creek, 9-1, last Thursday to finish claiming both ends of a home-and-home series, then rolled past Walnut Grove, 8-0, and Central Gwinnett, 15-0, earlier this week. The Wolves travel to Collins Hill for their next contest later today.

Meanwhile, teams two through five went a combined 11-0 to keep pace. No. 3 Holy Family (17-0) is the only other unbeaten team left in the rankings, while No. 2 Gretna (21-1) and fifth-ranked Eaton (13-1) each sport one loss, and No. 4 Caddo (27-2) has two losses.

Washington (22-1-1) and East Paulding (19-3) round out the revised top 10, behind No. 6 Blue Springs South (17-2), seventh-ranked Houston County (14-2) and No. 8 Owasso (25-1-1).

Arvada West (15-2) is the lone newcomer this week at No. 12, replacing fellow Colorado school Horizon, which dropped out following an 0-3 week.

State rankings submitted by the 2023 NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality, strength of schedule, and active NFCA membership. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
